As a former school librarian, I know we are incredibly busy and taking on new tasks for advocacy can be a daunting proposition. But without advocating for ourselves, we run the risk of losing public support and the support of our Administration. In fact, we've seen over 65% of school libraries close in the last 15 years. The good news is that there are things that you can do as a school librarian to advocate for yourself with some of the most modern advocacy tactics and strategies without adding significant work or cost to your day-to-day work. In this session we'll look at some of the data around library support, tactics for engaging with the public and political leaders, methods for building political power and influence, as well as ways to work together to build a more robust advocacy environment in Michigan for School Libraries.
